Outside the office…

Outside the office, I can be found in the kitchen testing new recipes, running, and exploring the Bay Area’s beautiful natural landscape. I love the sun (vitamin D) and am a proud native of Sydney, Australia.

Registered Dietitian vs. Nutritionist: What’s the Difference?

‘Registered Dietitian’ is a protected term whereas ‘Nutritionist’ is not. Dietitians go through many years of rigorous scientific training, exams and supervised practical experience before penning ‘RD’ next to their name for the first time. Our coursework covers everything from biochemistry to medical nutrition therapy, food safety and food systems management.

Nutritionists, on the other hand, aren’t bound to the same stringent standards. In fact, some self-proclaimed ‘Nutritionists’ have very little formal training in food and nutrition science (eek). ‘Nutritionist’ is a term that can be used by almost anyone with an interest in healthy eating.
